STEUBENVILLE From the start of Tuesday’s meeting of the Jefferson County Board of Health, through most of the agenda, the topic of disparity in COVID-19 numbers and public health in general among the African American community was a re-occurring topic of discussion.
Royal Mayo, local activist and Steubenville City Council candidate, brought up the topic in public participation, and different aspects were discussed at different points in the meeting by county Health Commissioner Andrew Henry, Medical Director Dr. Mark Kissinger, WIC Director Stephanie Chester and members of the board.

DISCUSSION â The Jefferson County Board of Health held its monthly meeting a week later than anticipated due to weather. Topics discussed by the board were the countyâs improving COVID-19 numbers and ongoing nuisance complaints against several properties in the county.
STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Board of Health gave two owners an additional 30 days to clean their property, but made it clear they are running out of second chances.
The properties in question are located in Salem Township. Nuisance complaints filed with the health department state there is an infestation of rats, and a health department inspector told the board he personally had seen a rat when trying to make contact with one of the property owners.

STEUBENVILLE As is likely to be the case the for the foreseeable future, the main topic of discussion at Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Jefferson County Board of Health was COVID-19 vaccine distribution.
Local activist Royal Mayo raised questions during the public participation segment, concerns about the process were raised in a letter to the board from Maria Hamilton and the vaccine was a topic during the reports from new Health Commissioner Andrew Henry, Nursing Director Hannah Piko, Medical Director Dr. Mark Kissinger and Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Rick Stead.
