STANFORD, Calif. – For the third consecutive year, Stanford s men s gymnastics coaching staff, led by 19th-year head coach Thom Glielmi, has been named CGA National Coaching Staff of the Year.
As of 1973, the National Head Coach and Assistant Coaches of the Year are presented annually to the coaches of the team that wins the NCAA Championships. The Cardinal captured its seventh NCAA title on Saturday night – repeating as national champion after winning it all in 2019. Stanford s coaching staff also earned the honor in 2020 after the CGA held a vote to determine the winners due to the 2020 season being canceled short during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Since 2015, No. 1 Oklahoma (5-0, 2-0 MPSF) and No. 4 Stanford (4-1, 2-0 MPSF) have finished as two of the best teams in the nation. Together, they have claimed the last five national championships. On Saturday, these two gymnastics titans will face off in Norman in a rematch of the 2019 NCAA Championships, where the Cardinal emerged victorious by less than a point.
A few months after its clutch performance in Illinois, the Cardinal met the Sooners at the Stanford Open, dominating Oklahoma before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eclipsing 400.000 as a team just two days ago, No. 16 Stanford men’s gymnastics (4-1, 2-0 MPSF) finally proved to the nation that it can defend its 2019 national championship. The Cardinal became just the fourth team in the nation behind No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 Nebraska to crack 410.000 as a team, defeating Cal (4-2, 0-2 MPSF) 412.500 – 386.100 on Sunday.
The team was lights-out in Burnham Pavilion as it set season highs on floor exercise, still rings and parallel bars en route to a season-high team total.
