The Sky Blues claimed a 2-1 win over third-placed Melbourne Victory in the final round on Wednesday at Cromer Park to collect the club s first W-League premiership in a decade.
It ends a strangely long drought for one of the competition heavyweights whose roster is usually littered with international players.
Sydney FC are now also two wins away from winning a fourth championship and equalling the mark set by Melbourne City.

The football community is set to come together for a worthy cause on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in support of this month’s Tombsy Cup.
Entries are open for all interested teams to take part in the seven-a-side tournament, which is set to take place at Cromer Park on Saturday 27th March.
While the event was unfortunately cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, the inaugural Cup in 2019 saw the community come together to raise over $100,000 for the Guns Out Spinal Foundation, which was started after Richard Tombs suffered a life-changing spinal injury in 2018. ....

National Premier Leagues set to kick-off in NSW and Victoria tonight
The National Premier Leagues (NPL) returns for 2021 this weekend with New South Wales and Victoria both kicking off their respective men’s competitions tonight.
Four games will take place this evening, with Manly United and Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC scheduled as the first clash of 2021. Kick-off at Cromer Park on the Northern Beaches will be at 7:00pm, with Marconi Stallions FC taking on Sydney FC at Marconi Stadium 45 minutes later.
Each round 1 NPL NSW Men’s match will observe a minutes’ silence to pay respect to Idriss El-Hafiane, the former Rockdale Ilinden star who tragically passed away recently. Rockdale Ilinden will also be hosting a special tribute to El-Hafiane prior to their round 1 clash against Wollongong Wolves at Ilinden Sports Centre. ....
