Historic rain flooded mid-Michigan over a 48-hour period in May 2020 causing the embankment at the Edenville Dam to collapse leading to the evacuation of several thousand people from areas along the Tittabawassee River. The dam s failure sent a 20-feet high wall of water rushing downriver, destroying homes and bridges resulting in $250 million in damages. ....
Realignment bill clears House, heads to Senate for consideration Tags: By Nick Stevens, HighSchoolOT managing editor Raleigh, N.C. A bill that would give Onslow County Schools the option to change the N.C. High School Athletic Association realignment plan for the upcoming school year has cleared the North Carolina State House. House Bill 276 passed the House by a vote of 63-48. Only one Democrat joined 62 Republicans in supporting the bill, which was sponsored by Rep. Phil Shepard (R-Onslow). The bill now goes to the Senate, where it will have to be approved by the Committee on Rules and Operations of the Senate before it can go before the full Senate. So far, the bill has not been placed on an agenda for the committee, which is scheduled to meet next on Thursday morning. ....

Outdoornews May 6, 2021 DISTRICT 1 CO Jared Ferguson was traveling south on M-95 when he encountered a motor vehicle traveling 95 mph in a posted 55 miles per hour zone. CO Ferguson was able to stop the vehicle and contact the driver. CO Ferguson asked the driver why he continued at a high rate of speed and didn’t slow down after seeing the patrol vehicle and he stated, “I didn’t think you guys could stop me for speeding, so I didn’t think anything of it.” A citation was issued for speeding. CO Shannon Kritz worked in conjunction with Wisconsin game wardens to patrol an area of the Menominee River where both states were receiving numerous snagging complaints. CO Kritz contacted one angler who was observed keeping a fish after it had been snagged on top of its head. The angler explained to CO Kritz that he thought he could keep fish as long as they were caught in front of the gill plate. CO Kritz informed the angler that fish have to be retained in the mou ....
Certain lawmakers are attempting yet again to garner federal recognition for the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Congressmen G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.), Dan Bishop (R-N.C.), and David Price (D-N.C.) submitted H.R. 2758 (Lumbee Acknowledge Act) on Thursday, April 22. “I am proud to reintroduce this bill to right a historic wrong by finally extending the Lumbee Tribe the full federal recognition they deserve,” Rep. Butterfield said in a statement. “In the case of the Lumbee, it is well past time for Congress to exercise its authority. Now is the time for this Congress to stand on the right side of history and fully recognize the Lumbee.” ....
