Housing crisis campaign hits CQ billboards

Billboards are now on display in Rockhampton, Gladstone, other regional towns, and Brisbane suburbs as part of the Queensland Council of Social Service’s Town of Nowhere campaign.
The campaign calls on the Federal and State governments to make “landmark investments into social housing to deal with Queensland’s housing crisis”.
There are 47,036 people on the state’s social housing register – a population greater than that of Gladstone.
QCOSS CEO Aimee McVeigh said all levels of government needed to act to solve the problem.
“Both the Commonwealth Government and the Queensland Government have a responsibility to do something urgently about the housing crisis. Supply is simply not keeping up with demand,” she said. ....

CEO brings curtain down on distinguished career


Long serving Noosa Council CEO Brett de Chastel is to retire early next year.
Mr de Chastel, who will be 60 next year, brings the curtain down on a distinguished local government career on February 2, 2022.
“It has been an enormous honour to work at Noosa Council and this decision wasn’t taken lightly,” he said.
Mr de Chastel first joined Council in 2001 as its Director of Corporate Services and became the CEO at the beginning of 2014.
In his eight years in the top job, Mr de Chastel helped steer the organisation though de-amalgamation and his guidance and leadership proved invaluable in delivering a string of balanced budgets, while keeping debt at low levels. ....

War of words erupts over growing CQ housing crisis


Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry is calling on the state Labor members for Rockhampton and Keppel to step up and help Central Queensland’s “housing crisis”.
In a letter addressed to The Morning Bulletin, Ms Landry claimed Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga had a “if I look away it will go away” attitude to local issues, including Central Queensland’s “housing affordability crisis”.
