Plants and people: the art of living together, a live-streamed event

Stories of plants and people are connected in countless ways. Humans have always needed and loved plants, but we have also caused untold destruction on natural environments around the globe. The Conversation co-hosted an online panel discussion exploring the interconnections between the human and natural worlds on 14 June 2021, presented in partnership with the State Library of Queensland. Prudence Gibson from UNSW, Laura Skates from The University of Western Australia and Tanja Beer from the Queensland College of Art joined Eddie Game from The Nature Conservancy in a passionate discussion about people’s interactions with plants across social, emotional, scientific and creative endeavours. MELBOURNE .-Craft Victoria announced the appointment of experienced First Nations artist Jenna Lee to the Board as a Craft Industry Professional non-Executive Director. Ms Lee is a Larrakia, Wardaman and Karajarri woman who also has Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and Anglo-Australian ancestry. Her interdisciplinary art practice works across painting, projection, found object and sculpture, with a reoccurring use of paper, the book, language, and text. Craft Victoria Chair, Katrina Raymond, said Ms Lee brings a unique industry professional maker perspective which will be invaluable in supporting strategic planning and in helping the organisation to assist our Members in building professional and sustainable craft careers.

Partnership to understand Indigenous experiences of CTP

Date Time Partnership to understand Indigenous experiences of CTP Griffith researchers will consult with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland to better understand their experiences with the Comprehensive Third Party scheme. A new partnership between Griffith University and the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) will examine the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders injured in road accidents and their interactions with the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) scheme. The Hopkins Centre‘s Dr Leda Barnett, assisted by Griffith University PhD candidate Andrew Gall, will lead the three year study, funded by a $460,000 MAIC grant and supported by partnerships with Griffith’s Indigenous Research Unit (IRU), Synapse and the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health.
