Canterbury harness racing trainer Jesse Alford who was allegedly caught injecting a substance into two horses is now facing racing industry charges.
Racing Integrity Unit general manager Mike Godber told The Star on Wednesday Alford is facing two counts of administering a prohibited substance on race day and attempting to administer a prohibited substance on race day.
He will appear before a Judicial Control Authority hearing at a later date.

Tiger Roll (9-2) defied the odds when the dual Aintree Grand National winner landed the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival under Keith Donoghue.
Gordon Elliott trained Tiger Roll was switched to Denise Foster following an imposed BHA six months ban.
Tiger Roll was pulled out of this year’s National in April by connections, due to the weight of 11st 7lbs allocated by the handicapper.
A Gigginstown House Stud spokesperson said they have no regrets withdrawing Tiger Roll at the latest forfeit stages.
Tiger Roll could head for the Irish National at Fairyhouse following his unexpected Festival success, after a poor run at Cheltenham in November. ....

A Tasmanian harness racing trainer and driver is being sanctioned by the sport for not carrying a whip. Gavin Kelly, with 116 races under his belt, says he s being forced to carry a whip during races for his own safety. Kelly says he refuses to carry or use a whip because they are not necessary, and more, painful for the animal. He is now fighting a $1000 fine, but risks being forced out of horse racing altogether.

Altior shock withdrawal from Cheltenham Festival Queen Mother Champion Chase

Altior has been withdrawn from the Queen Mother Champion Chase on day two at the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday after trainer Nicky Henderson revealed the chaser had returned an unsatisfactory scope.
“We are very sorry that we have taken the difficult decision not to run Altior in the Champion Chase. He coughed after exercise which caused us to scope him and as a result of what we have seen it would not be sensible to run him.
“This is devastating for all of us, and Altior’s owners Pat and Christopher Pugh in particular, in that this is the second year running we have had to pull him out at the last minute,” said Henderson. ....

Cheltenham Triumph Hurdle 1995 winner Kissair and 2000 Arkle winner Tiutchev, bred by Mrs D M Rothschild, continue to spend happy lives in retirement with Nikki Atkinson.
“Rabbit (Kissair) was 30 on March 7, having been gifted to me in 1999, a couple of months after my sister died of cancer,” Nikki told me, ahead of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.
“I was extremely sad, depressed and felt like my world had imploded,” said Teacher/Equestrian manager Nikki.
Kissair, trained by Martin Pipe, won the Triumph Hurdle in 1999, when beating Silver Wedge. He last raced in 2000 at Garthorpe, aged 9, when under trainer Nicky Henderson. ....
