TRENTON - The Assembly Thursday approved a bill that would protect homeowner association boards against civil lawsuits in case a resident or guest is exposed to COVID-19 while using the community s amenities.
The 74-0 vote puts associations closer to reopening clubhouses, fitness rooms, swimming pools and more that have been shut down since the pandemic hit the state in March 2020.
The Assembly joins the Senate, which approved the bill 36-0 June 3. The legislation still needs Gov. Phil Murphy s signature.
With COVID cases falling and vaccinations on the rise, New Jersey has been granting the go-ahead to reopen everything from movie theaters to bars.
Homeowner associations could get COVID reopening lawsuit protection if Murphy OKs it
