250 visitors come out for Kutztown Area Historical Society's first spring Arts and Crafts Festival | News


The grounds of the 1892 Public School Building at the corner of Whiteoak and Normal in Kutztown hosted artists and visitors to the Kutztown Area Historical Society’s first springtime Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 22.
“We had to cancel the society’s holiday festival last November, so we wanted to do something to help the artists who usually attend. And we wanted to do something to help bring Kutztown out of the pandemic doldrums. So we decided to have an outdoor arts and crafts festival,” said event organizer Kerri Shegan. “May weather can be tricky, but we lucked out with a beautiful day.” ....

Kutztown Area Historical Society hosts outdoor Arts and Crafts Festival


The Kutztown Area Historical Society is holding an Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 22.
The outdoor event, rain or shine, opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
“We weren’t able to hold our annual Holiday Festival because of the pandemic, so we thought we’d invite our vendors to an outdoor event to help them and to give the Kutztown community a springtime event,” said festival chair Kerri Shegan. “We’ll have some new vendors, too. I’m excited to see their creations.”

The parking lot at the society, located at the corner of Normal Avenue and South Whiteoak Street in Kutztown, will host the vendors. ....

Kutztown and German town become sister cities


Kutztown Borough and a German town are now officially sister cities.
At its Feb. 16 virtual meeting Kutztown Borough Council approved a resolution forging a relationship with Altrip, a municipality in Germany, through programming to exchange historical and cultural information in an effort to participate in town twinning.
“A year ago, we started this but because of COVID it fell behind. With the Pen Pal Program that was started at the library, there are a lot of people taking interest,” said Kutztown Mayor Jim Schlegel. “I look forward to communicating and visiting the folks of Altrip and when they come to visit us.” ....
