Kutztown 2nd grader donates toys, books to children's hospital


Kutztown Elementary School 2nd grader Ajax David recently delivered toys and books to the Lehigh Valley Reilly Children s Hospital.
The 7 year old organized a toy and book drive, collecting donations at the organic café HIVE and Firefly Bookstore in Kutztown. His goal was to get enough books and toys for all of the children in the hospital.
“I liked collecting the donations because we received so many, and it was exciting,” said Ajax. “I felt really good about delivering the donation because that meant almost all of the kids at the hospital would not be sad anymore. I hope it helps kids at the hospital improve their education and reading.” ....

Kutztown School District's high school and elementary school go virtual due to COVID cases


Students at Kutztown High School and Kutztown Elementary School will learn remotely today and Friday due to COVID-19 cases at the schools.
According to messages Dr. Christian Temchatin, superintendent, sent to parents on Wednesday, the closures are based on updated guidance from the state Department of Health. Both schools will resume in-person instruction Monday.
The high school has had two positive COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days, the message said. Department of Health guidelines say that a school with fewer than 500 students should close for three to seven days if between two and four cases are identified in the building over two weeks. ....
