The death of a New York infant has been labeled a homicide. Pix11 reports that authorities were called to a home in October 2020, off of Liberty Avenue in Jamaica, about an unresponsive child. When deputies arrived, they found 7-month-old Kameri Garriques unconscious but with no signs of physical trauma. First responders rushed the infant to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators said the baby appeared to be malnourished. As CrimeOnline reported, the child’s mother, Carla Garriques, 28, said that she kept him on a Biblical vegan diet and wasn’t “going to carry a fat a child.” Garriques reportedly admitted that her baby was small for his age, but she claimed she, too, has always been small, adding that a vegan diet prevented her son from consuming “formula where it has chemicals in it.” ....
Police: Discuss dating violence with teens FAIRFIELD The Police Department wants the public to know February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. “This is an issue that impacts everyone – not just teens – but their parents, teachers, friends and communities as well,” the department said in a press release. “Together, we can raise the nation’s awareness about teen dating violence and promote safe, healthy relationships.” An estimated 1 in 10 teens will experience dating violence, according to the press release. Nationwide, youth ages 12 to 19 experience the highest rates of rape and sexual assault. Girls are particularly vulnerable to experiencing violence in their relationships and are more likely to suffer long-term behavioral and health consequences, including suicide attempts, eating disorders and drug use. ....
