The effort to end homelessness in Central Florida just got a big boost from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. “We are over the moon excited,” Coalition Director of Development Meredith Bekemeyer said.The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida has been recognized nationally. It was selected to receive a $2.5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund. It s just a huge, huge honor. We re receiving a $2.5 million grant to start a new program designed to end family homelessness here in Central Florida,” Bekemeyer said.The Coalition s Director of Development says the whole process was by invitation only. What s really just a tremendous honor about it is they have a panel of experts on homelessness, national experts and they actually selected us and invited us to apply for the opportunity, Bekemeyer said.With the money, the coalition will create a mobile unit to go out five days a week to meet homeless families where they are.
