The report looked at the council s response to an asbestos incident (Photo: Newsquest/Pixabay) Harrow Council acknowledged mistakes were made during an investigation into a health and safety incident in which asbestos and syringes were taken to a public tip. Its latest annual health and safety report – covering 2019/20 – outlined several issues surrounding the fallout of the incident, which happened in June 2019. The fly-tip was picked up by Harrow Council housing caretakers in Grange Farm Estate and taken to the Civic Amenity Site, in Forward Drive. Once it was at the site, it emerged the waste contained asbestos sheeting and split plastic bags holding needles, syringes and medicine jars.

Repurposed containers will become Reuse Centres for used goods Reuse centres will offer used and ‘pre-loved’ items such as ceramics, toys, books, and loose furniture which still hold value and can be reused 23 January 2021, 9:08am by Matthew Vella WasteServ will be opening four reuse centres to enhance its Civic Amenity Site experience and to further widen the concept of a circular economy.   These centres, which are expected to be opened by the end of the year, will offer used and ‘pre-loved’ items such as ceramics, toys, books, and loose furniture which still hold value and can be reused.  Environment minister Aaron Farrugia visited the Ħal Far Civic Amenity Site where one of the reuse centres will be opening, where he said people will be able to obtain items against a pre-established donation to a fund for environmental initiatives, including a bee conservation programme.

Cllr Dollard is concerned that illegal dumping continues to be a problem and in the city a small clothes recycling collection bin located on the Bennettsbridge Road, has been the target of illegal dumping in the last few months.
