New 'Lead Change' campaign focuses on TROY's leadership development

A change is in the air.
Soon, you’ll be seeing billboards, commercials and advertisements about Troy University that feature the new slogan “Lead Change” a slogan that reflects the University’s strong reputation and commitment to building leaders throughout the world.
“One of the most important things a university can do is prepare its students to become leaders,” said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of Troy University. “We’re in a critical state in America. Daily we talk about the shortage of well-qualified leaders. We see that as a primary mission for Troy University, to prepare leaders who can help guide this nation, and we’re working hard to do that. We take seriously the preparation of our students for leadership roles. We want our students to be servant leaders and that begins with a sense of service and a willingness to give to the communities that will embrace them and that need them.”  ....

Center for Civic Engagement holds Service, Learning and Leadership Recognition Celebration
Neither masks, nor distance, nor pandemic protocols would stop Norwich University’s volunteerism in 2020-21. Center for Civic Engagement Director Nicole DiDomenico said students’ perseverance showed gracious selflessness, and progress showed in April 15’s online meeting to celebrate it.
Spring 2020’s sudden campus shutdown to flatten the coronavirus infection curve scrubbed the Service, Learning and Leadership Recognition Celebration, a traditional in-person fete-and-feast. DiDomenico said she had neither time to plan nor enough digital experience to mount a virtual event.
But this year, DiDomenico and Assistant Director Abigail Joyal ’18, were ready. They honored 2021’s Civic Scholars students who received scholarship aid for 500 hours of service over four years and three students for honors earned in 2020. ....

Press Coffee initiative helping school districts

All proceeds from the Community Blend are donated to local nonprofits and community-based initiatives.
And from now through July, proceeds will go specifically to local school districts.
“We feel strongly and like the fact that [Press Coffee stores] are our community centers within their neighborhoods. Every store is a little bit different than the others, but one thing every store has in common is we are frequented by students, parents, teachers — and another major community place is their local school,” said Alex Mason, co-owner of Press Coffee.
The program is part of the company’s PressOnCharities initiative, which was started in 2018 to make an impact on Arizona communities ....

Marking return of campus activity, spring blood drive returns, collecting 165 pints
As in-room quarantine ended and campus crackled with energy last week, dozens of Norwich University students, faculty and staff members marched into the Vermont National Guard Armory hoping to help save lives.
On Feb. 25, the Center for Civic Engagement held its spring blood drive, partnering with the American Red Cross of Northern New England. Plumley Armory is serving as a five-days-a-week COVID-19 testing center this semester, having administered more than 11,000 COVID-19 tests since January. So, the blood drive moved across campus.
As in the fall, Civic Scholars Kevin Sloan, a junior, Hadlee Wolfram, a sophomore and Aidan Grady, a freshman organized and ran it. ....
