Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the licences of 21 lawyers who stormed into the Chief Justice Block on Feb 8 after the CDA demolished their illegal chambers. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sayyed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, dismissed an appeal filed by the Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) against the Feb 16 decision of the IHC to remove the illegal constructions.

The recipient of the contempt of court notices included IHCBA’s presidential candidate Raja Zahid, candidate for secretary Tasadduq Hanif and joint secretary’s candidate Yasmin Sindu. Notices were also issued to Ahsan Majeed Gujjar, Arbab Ayub Gujjar, Faisal Jadoon, Farzana Mughal, Hamad Dar, Nazia Abbasi, Shaista Tabassum, Kulsoom Rafique, Kamran Yousafzai, Hafiz Malik Mazhar Javed, Khalid Mehmood, Raja Amjad and Raja Farrukh.

PHOTO: Express ISLAMABAD: A case has been registered against 32 lawyers, including four women law practitioners, for storming the block of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) chief justice and vandalising it. The FIR registered at the Ramna police station includes Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act besides mob attack causing a threat to life, vandalism, disrupting peace and other relevant clauses of the Pakistan Penal Code. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) had razed illegal structures built on the premises of the District and Sessions Court (DSC) in the wee hours of Monday. The chambers were constructed on the footpath along with the iron grills outside the court of the district and sessions judge.
