Blue phone systems on college campuses across the nation are starting to be removed as some universities are rendering them obsolete in the age of mobile phones. However, the University of Kansas still believes in the importance of the system and plans to continue maintaining them for the foreseeable future. âLike most things, when you set safety protocols, they are going to stay in place,â said James Druen, deputy chief of the KU Public Safety Office. â[The blue phones] have continued to be out there to be used.â Druen acknowledged a decrease in blue phone usage but said there are some positives that mobile phones do not present. If oneâs phone were to die in an emergency, Druen said the blue phones are readily available for them. ....
According to KU s Chief of Police, Chris Keary, crime on campus has decreased since 2019 because of a low on-campus population. This decrease has helped some feel safer. ....

KU Public Safety took reports of 349 criminal offenses on campus in 2020, which was a 40% decrease from 2019 and the lowest number reported in the past 10 years, according to the news release. The public safety office said property crimes, such as theft and criminal damage, continued to make up the greatest number of offenses reported on campus, but both were down when compared with previous years. ....

Pearson Hall, resulting in a loss of $610, according to records from KU PSO. This case remains open. ....
