Boys and girls high school basketball games scheduled around South Dakota today

It may be a Wednesday, but there is still plenty of high school basketball scheduled around the state, including in Gettysburg, where Potter County will entertain Jones County in a girls/boys double-header. Both games can be heard beginning with a 3:10 pregame on 100.7 KMLO-FM and also viewed with live video through the KMLO page of drgnews.com.
They’ll also be playing two in Presho today where Lyman will host Timber Lake, and it’ll be Lions versus Tigers (oh my!) when Langford hosts Dupree for a double-header.
Elsewhere holiday boys basketball events will take place in Huron and Mitchell. Lower Brule, Wessington Springs, Burke and McIntosh will play in the Huron Classic, while Gregory battles Bridgewater-Emery and White River will take on Howard in a highly anticipated match-up at the Corn Palace Classic in Mitchell. ....

Virus cancels annual Dakota ride, but some headed to Mankato | News, Sports, Jobs

MANKATO (AP) An annual trek to Mankato to remember tribal members who were executed following the U.S.-Dakota war has been officially canceled due to the coronavirus, although a small group of horseback riders is making the journey anyway.
The annual Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial Ride begins when some Dakota riders start a 330-mile journey from Lower Brule, South Dakota, to Mankato. Other riders, as well as runners, join them along the way.
The route takes the riders through Russell and Marshall.
They eventually gather on Dec. 26 at Reconciliation Park near the Blue Earth County Library to honor the 38 Dakota killed in a mass hanging on the site that day in 1862. They also remember two chiefs who were kidnapped from Canada three years later, brought back to the U.S. and executed. ....

MANKATO â The annual Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial Ride to Mankato will not take place this year due to the pandemic, although at least one small group of riders has been making the trek.
The Native America Calling website and the Dakota 38 Facebook page officially announced the cancellation last week.
But at least one small group of riders has been making their way to Mankato and set up their camp in a park in Lake Crystal on Wednesday night after riding from St. James in the blizzard. ....

Wayne Eugene Grubbs, age 75, of Lower Brule, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 20, 1945 to Orvie P. and Mary A. Grubbs in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Wayne was the second of three children and the only son. He graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in 1963 and then attended the School of Mines in Rapid City, SD.
In May 1967, Wayne married the love of his life Catherine M. Doren and they celebrated 53 years together. They had two children Theresa Kay and Jeromy Alan.
Wayne began working for the State of South Dakota as part of the survey crew on the I-90 interstate project. He then went to the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications Division and worked as a Data Base Administrator. Several years later Wayne transferred to the Unified Judicial System. He proudly served the State of South Dakota for 41 years. After his retirement Wayne and Cathy moved ....
