Radio Islam Asia Pacific correspondent Kiru Naidoo says the death toll in Myanmar continues to escalate following the coup. The country has been in chaos since a 1 February coup that ended a brief period of civilian-led democracy and sparked nationwide protests and strikes, despite the ruling military’s use of lethal force to quell the resistance. Naidoo says the military is tightening its grip across Myanmar. “The latest figures are that the death toll has climbed up to 550, of those that were killed, 46 of them are children. The most recent deaths have come from the central part of Burma where the military just opened fire on anti-coup protestors on Saturday.’ ....
