The Morrison government will announce additional support for a range of women s health initiatives in Tuesday night s federal budget.
The funding will form part of a 50-plus page statement focused on women which is the first of its kind in two decades.
Funding will reportedly more than double for domestic violence prevention to at least $680 million, and policies to cut the cost of childcare and help single parents buy a house will also feature in the budget.
A $354 million women’s healthcare package will be unveiled – increasing funding for cervical and breast cancer screening, mental health and eating disorder programs and genetic screening of embryos. ....

EXCLUSIVE: Pre-budget behind the scenes with Josh Frydenberg

In the lead up to the budget, Sky News Chief Anchor Kieran Gilbert has spent time with Treasurer Josh Frydenberg at his home in Melbourne.

Ahead of what could be his make-or-break Budget, the Treasurer granted Sky News unprecedented access to his family at home in Melbourne.

Mr Frydenberg will stand up in the House of Representatives in Parliament House to hand down his third federal budget on Tuesday night.

Over the last month the Treasurer has been locked away in Canberra preparing the economic pathway out of the pandemic, and away from his wife and two children at home.

In this exclusive pre-budget behind the scenes, the Treasurer revealed his ambitions for the nation and what his friends and family have to say of his political future.

Education Minister Alan Tudge says the federal government’s $1.7 billion boost to childcare subsidies has three parts from which Australian families will benefit.
Probed by Sky News host Kieran Gilbert whether the investment was an economic measure or a social subsidy, Mr Tudge outlined a series of benefits, including an impact on workforce participation, early childhood education and family costs.
He said government estimated the measures will support “the equivalent of a further 40,000 people in work”.
“Second, there is that impact in terms of supporting kids to do some preschool before they go into school and there is some evidence that if you do a certain number of hours that will assist you. ....

A government minister has revealed to Sky News Chief Anchor Kieran Gilbert they feel uncomfortable with the emboldened level of Pentecostal activity within the Morrison government - saying they should leave it in the Church.
Mr Gilbert relayed the remarks after speaking with Employment Minister Stuart Robert who outlined to him the Pentecostal practice of laying on of hands - which the prime minister revealed he practiced when visiting disaster relief centres.
“I fear they’ve become emboldened to the point that I feel very uncomfortable,” the government minister said. ....
