A former Garda cold case detective Dave ‘Rocky’ O’Brien has been named during a High Court a proceeds of crime case being taken against Kinahan Cartel lieutenant Ross Browning and members of his family. Former Detective Garda O’Brien who worked in the Serious Crime Review team lives with Browning’s mum Julie Conway in a property which has been identified by the Bureau in the dirty money proceedings.
The couple married last year.
During High Court proceedings this week it emerged the pair have spent large sums of money renovating the once derelict Chestnut Lodge property which is located on a vast compound at Garristown which were the subject of CAB raids in 2018.

RTECaolan Smyth was handed a 20 year sentence for his role in the shooting of James Gately, which occurred on May 10, 2017. Gately was shot five times at a petrol station near Dublin Airport. Gately survived the shooting thanks to a bulletproof vest he was wearing, which absorbed four of the five bullets. The other bullet hit Gately in the jaw.
Smyth, a former All-Ireland youth boxing champion, is alleged to be an associate of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group (KOCG); a $1 billion narcotics trafficking operation. Gately is reportedly a member of the Hutch Gang. The Hutch-Kinahan feud has raged since the killing of Gary Hutch in 2015. The boxing world is still dealing with the fallout from the BBC’s expose titled Boxing and the Mob, which aired on its flagship documentary series
Panorama two weeks ago. The documentary, through interviews with boxing insiders, alleged that Daniel Kinahan the alleged leader of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group is a central figure at MTK Global.
MTK began life as Macklin’s Gym Marbella (MGM) and was founded by Kinahan and former boxer Matthew Macklin. Since its creation MTK has swelled its boxing client roster to include Tyson Fury, Carl Frampton, Michael Conlan and Billy Joe Saunders. MTK’s MMA division represents the UFC’s Darren Till as well as Talia Santos, Mounir Lazzez, Mike Grundy, Dusko Todorovic, Su Mudaerji and dozens more fighters.
