FAIRMONT– The Fairmont City Council met on Monday night and approved one new business item, viewed a presentation, and approved the consent agenda as read. The consent agenda included 11 event permits that were all approved.
The only new business item was to approve the assignment and assumption agreement with the Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) for the electric vehicle charging stations. SMMPA is the wholesale electric provider and the board agreed to purchase electric vehicle chargers for each of the 18 members of the agency.
The city of Fairmont received two Level 2 chargers and 1 DC fast charger as part of this program late last summer. The city’s line department is currently working on the plans to install these three units at two different locations. The first location is downtown near City Hall and adjacent to Citizen’s Plaza. the second location is at the Winnebago Avenue Sports Complex. Installation is planned to b ....

FAIRMONT Laura Olsen is set to be honored at an upcoming “4 Under 40” recognition event, meant to honor those young people in a community who are up-and-coming leaders in the community. Olsen is a Physical Therapist Assistant with Mayo Clinic Health Systems, and she has lived in Fairmont for over five years. She and her husband Chris have 4 children. Laura is the Chair for Kids Just Want to Have Fun, as well as the Co-Chair for the Fairmont YMCA. She also serves as vice-president of the Fairmont Elementary Early Childhood and Family Education Parent Advisory Board, as well as several committees with Mayo Clinic Health Systems. ....

FAIRMONT Several programs and events recognize hardworking and community-minded people, but those are often geared toward the elderly. While not seeking to diminish lifetime achievements, it can also be important to recognize younger generations for their forward-thinking efforts.
To that end, a recognition event known as “4 Under 40” is prepared to honor four Martin County residents, including Blake Potthoff, Laura Olsen, Kaleena Wiens, and Benjamin Landsteiner.
Erik Karre, District Director for the Boy Scouts of America Twin Valley Action Council, shares information explaining the event.
“It’s designed to recognize up and coming leaders in the community. Many older people get recognized for lifetime commitments to things in the community,” he said. “Back in my hometown there really wasn’t a lot that was designed to recognize the young people.
