No. 5 Reidsville leaves no doubt in 48-14 victory against No. 25 East Surry

Pilot Mountain, N.C. Reidsville began its quest to three-peat as 2A football state champions and did so in style.
The Rams left David H. Diamont Stadium on Friday night with a convincing 48-14 win over East Surry. Reidsville came into week two rankled No. 5 in the HighSchoolOT Top 25 West football poll, while East Surry was slotted in at No. 25.
Back in 2019, East Surry and Reidsville played arguably the Triad’s best high school game on Sept. 25. The Cardinals won 55-49 and that was actually the last defeat Reidsville has suffered nearly 530 days ago. Both teams won state championships at their respective classifications that season in impressive fashion: East Surry (56-28 over Tarboro in 1AA) and Reidsville (14-0 over Northeastern in 2A). ....

Surry County in 2017 adopted this design by East Surry student Destini Hudson for its anti-littering campaign. Commissioners say the problem is bad again and needs addressing.

DOBSON An old issue has come up again among county officials as they are discussing the problem with litter along the sides of roads.
In the most recent meeting of the Surry County Board of Commissioners, Chairman Mark Marion said, “I’ve been getting several phone calls lately concerning the trash in Surry County.”
“It’s looking pretty bad in some parts of the county,” Marion said. “You go down the road and you can hardly see the side ditches because of the trash.” ....

Bishop McGuinness girls basketball team continued its unbeaten run to start the season with a convincing 58-20 win at home over nonconference foe Lexington on Thursday.
The Villains (4-0, 3-0 Northwest 1A), typically led by their sophomore duo of Charley Chappell and Tate Chappell, showed off their depth as nine different players got in the scorebook. Freshman forward Kiersten Varner led the way off the bench with a game-high 12 points, while Charley Chappell added 11 points and Tate Chappell chipped in nine points.
Also getting in the scorebook for Bishop was senior Alaila Kreuter (seven points), sophomore Katie Deal (six points), junior Katelynn Williams (five points), senior Michelle Petrangeli (four points), sophomore Grace Harriman and junior Francesca Moya (two points apiece). ....
