Toby Yoho Classic called off
The annual Toby Yoho Classic holiday basketball tournament has been called off for 2020.
The 12-team event scheduled for Dec. 29-30 at Eastern Greene, was shelved Wednesday because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both the Brownstown Central and Trinity Lutheran girls teams were scheduled to compete in the tournament.
Aaron Buskirk, the Eastern Greene High athletic director, issued a group email notifying athletic directors of the participating schools.
In part it read: After some discussion with my superintendent this week and some feedback from a couple of teams, we are going to have to cancel the Toby Yoho Classic for 2020, Buskirk wrote. I hope that you can accept my sincere apologies for having to do this, but we feel the risk of bringing 12 teams into our school only a few days after Christmas for a tight window of a two-day tournament is just too much. ....
