Council Canberra trip $25K-plus | Dandenong Star Journal

An all-expenses trip for all 11 Greater Dandenong councillors and a council director to a conference in Canberra has cost ratepayers at least $25,000.
The delegation joined other councils for the Australian Local Government Association’s general assembly at the National Convention Centre in Canberra on 20-23 June.
Greater Dandenong confirmed its registration, airfares and accommodation costs were at least $25,651 “to date” – not including GST.
Some councillors stayed at the nearby four-star Crowne Plaza Hotel – which has advertised rates of $189 a night. Others opted to share a family unit.
Cr Tim Dark told a council meeting on 28 June that it gave a chance to network, talk ideas and find out what other councils were doing differently. ....

Public Art Strategy is adjacent to EastLink southbound just before the Dandenong Bypass interchange.
THREE of the most recognisable artworks along the 39 kilometres of the EastLink tollway have been renovated and restored.
The collection of public artworks includes 12 artworks along the tollway and shared use path.
EastLink says the artworks set among 480 hectares of landscaping are “arguably [form] Australia’s largest sculpture park”.
“EastLink’s much-loved art collection cost $5 million when the artworks were commissioned and acquired shortly before EastLink opened in 2008, so it’s important they are maintained properly,” The company’s corporate affairs manager Doug Spencer-Roy said. ....

AUSTIN, Texas - Trail construction is now complete on the Boggy Creek Trail, Austin s first-ever dual-track trail. The project was a joint partnership with Austin Public Works, Austin Transportation, and the Parks and Recreation Department.
The new dual-track connects Rosewood Ave to E. 12th Street, where it joins the existing Boggy Creek trail.
A dual-track trail separates people walking from those biking or using other wheeled devices, which improves safety and creates more space for the different paces of users.
Beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 16, visitors can explore the trail and read temporary signs that act as a tour guide with more information about this area. The signs will be in place for one month. ....
