Two sides to every story: Penn State Centre Stage Virtual presents 'The Last Five Years'

Love, differing priorities and sweeping musical ballads are what audiences can tune into this weekend in the second installment of Penn State Centre Stage’s spring lineup.
Penn State School of Theatre premiered The Last Five Years last night, a musical originally written by Jason Robert Brown in 2001.
Two decades later, it was brought to life by actors Becca Suskauer and Jake Pedersen and director Jennifer Delac.
The show is being shared with the audience via a video stream.
The musical focuses on the breakdown of the relationship between Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hiatt with a combination of flashbacks and chronological storytelling. Both characters present their separate perspectives—with a twist. ....

With rise of coronavirus cases in Penn State's East Halls, residents notice little change

On March 26, Penn State encouraged all residents living in East Halls to receive a coronavirus test after positive tests were reported in the complex’s various buildings.
While some have wondered if East Halls is a “cluster” location for coronavirus cases, the university has not defined it as such.
“I’m not so sure it’s a cluster,” Penn State President Eric Barron said during a March 26 webinar. “We have much greater testing capacity today, and it is both rapid and takes quick action to isolate individuals.”
Matt Ferrari, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics at Penn State, added that while East Halls experienced an increase in positive cases, there was a “broadscale” increase in positive coronavirus cases at Penn State as a whole. ....

'Penn State can do way better' | Students, professors share opinions on university's coronavirus testing strategy | University Park Campus News

As the coronavirus pandemic has evolved over the past year, Penn State’s testing strategy for the virus has, too. This spring, Penn State increased random testing to 2% of its students, faculty and staff a day compared to 1% a day in the fall semester.
According to Suresh Kuchipudi, Penn State professor of immunology and microbiology, testing 2% of the population a day improves the detectability of the coronavirus rather than stopping transmission entirely. Penn State’s consensus is that it’s impossible to create a testing system that completely halts the virus — much of reducing transmission rates is up to the Penn State population itself, Kuchipudi said. ....
