Glenwood Springs City Council has final say on special use permits, even when application meets required criteria outlined in local and state laws

Kind Castle, a retail marijuana dispensary, has opened a new location in Craig and is in the process of obtaining a permit in Cedaredge, but owner John Dyet knows there’s likely no chance he’ll ever get approval to open up a location in Glenwood Springs.
“It’s been almost impossible to get a marijuana store approved in Glenwood. I narrowly was able to get my marijuana store approved in the Glenwood Meadows plaza even though it was a perfect application,” Dyet recalled. His application was approved by a 4-3 vote.
His application for another location was ultimately denied 5-1 by Glenwood Springs council members. ....

UPDATE: Power restored after outage at Glenwood Meadows, Community Center

Glenwood Springs Electric crews were on site Monday evening to assess a power outage that affected the Glenwood Springs Community Center, Glenwood Meadows shopping areas, residences and traffic signals.
“City electrical crews are evaluating the situation,“ according to the initial city alert that was issued at 5:48 p.m.
If motorists encounter a blinking traffic signal they are advised to treat the intersection as a four-way stop and check for other cars before proceeding with caution, the release states.

The ulti-mutt gift: Compassion Project Rescue places abandoned Texas dogs with Colorado families

Alizabeth Koster will typically only have 20 dogs from the shelters in Texas where she does transfers, but this time she had 36.
“We usually transport up once a month … and this time we did a much bigger transport because of the freeze, since a bunch of dogs were freezing and we threw on as many as we safely could.
Koster said she has been a volunteer for Compassion Project Rescue (CPR) for a few months now, as she stood beside a foldable kennel outside the Glenwood Springs PetCo store Tuesday with four eager puppies barking away. ....

Kind Castle gets council nod for first Glenwood Meadows pot shop

Kind Castle will be the first marijuana retail shop to open at the Glenwood Meadows commercial area.
Glenwood Springs City Council last week voted 4-3 to approve the proposal by Kind Castle to construct a new 4,504-square-foot, two story building at the corner of Wulfsohn Road and Flat Tops View Drive.
The location is at the southeast corner of the larger Glenwood Meadows planned unit development (PUD), near the Glenwood Green Apartments.
The retail marijuana shop is planned to take up 3,270 square feet of building space, leaving another 784 square feet for future retail leasing to be determined.
City Council held a lengthy public hearing on Dec. 3, where a range of arguments were made both for and against the application. ....
