Seniors Colin Cusack, Matisse Despres and Noah Girard, students in business teacher Nancy Vondrak’s financial literacy class, received a Target gift card and a certificate from SIFMA for their victory. ....
Seeing with emotion: Remembering Cleveland artist John W. Carlson Anne Nickoloff, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio On the first floor of Cleveland’s ArtCraft building, all the tools of an artist cans of paint, jars of used brushes, canvases and sketchpads are placed on the floor and tables in a long studio. Wooden shelves hold up decades’ worth of work: paintings, sketches, drawings and photographs. That work was left behind when John W. Carlson suddenly died on Dec. 20, 2020, due to an abdominal aneurysm. He was 66. The art in Carlson’s studio reflects the Cleveland artist’s whole life in images of joy, laughter, grief and pain. ....
Massillon Museum to host student exhibition The Times-Reporter The Massillon Museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery will host the exhibition, “My Community: Through the Eyes of the 21st-Century African American Child” from Feb. 7 through March 21. A component of the Arts Facet the Kent Area Chapter of The Links, Inc., the exhibition will feature photography by middle school student photographers. Twenty students received digital instruction from Cleveland Print Room instructors using Zoom. The photography project was initiated in 2017. A social justice component was added this year to expose students to prominent African American photographers and career opportunities in photojournalism and photography. The images in the exhibit will also offer a glimpse into the students’ community and surroundings while sheltering in place due to COVID-19. ....
