Downtown Revitalization Initiative Funds Key Catalytic Projects Continuing the Governor s Goal to Enrich Communities
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced 13 projects in Schenectady that will create connections between the city s growing downtown and waterfront developments, transform existing buildings to create mixed-used spaces, and enhance the local arts scene. Funded through Schenectady s $10 million award through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, these investments reflect the Governor s ongoing efforts to revitalize the upstate economy and create more opportunities throughout the Capital Region.

First of all, some clarification regarding the future of a community task force that helped the city select the development team for the large residential and commercial complex. The task force, appointed by Community Board 3, will meet quarterly with the development team. Its composition might change somewhat but many of the members previously involved will continue their roles. As construction gets underway in the spring of 2015 the developers will step up their outreach to the immediate community. There will be a website set up to keep residents informed regarding construction issues and a liaison will be appointed to communicate with the community board and the neighborhood as a whole.

And construction plans for new housing in the midstate have been moving forward.
Earlier this year, a developer unveiled plans for Freedom Square in York County, one of the largest mixed-use developments in the midstate in recent year.
And a number of other mixed-use projects are currently under construction including Blue Ridge Village and Susquehanna Union Green.
In Harrisburg, a number of developers are converting older properties into housing.
And developers in the midstate are building a number of types of housing: senior living, townhomes, condominiums, affordable housing, apartments and single family homes.
