MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Minnesota regulators are telling three more establishments to close indoor in-person dining or face 60-day suspensions of their liquor licenses. The Interchange in Albert Lea, Cornerstone in Monticello, and The Pour House in Clarks Grove have joined a growing list of eateries that have ignored Gov. Tim Walz’s executive order aimed and slowing the spread of the coronavirus. Others facing similar suspensions are Boardwalk Bar and Grill in East Grand Forks, Alibi Drinkery in Lakeville, Mission Tavern in Merrifield, and Neighbors on the Rum in Princeton. CARES Act money mishandled across Southern Minnesota NEW RICHLAND Editor Of nearly $7.5 million distributed to eleven southern Minnesota cities to support struggling persons and businesses, roughly 17.5 percent ($1.3 million) was awarded to local businesses according to federal guidelines. The remaining funds appear to have been used to pad city checkbooks. Many southern Minnesota cities have used a loophole to allow the use of money from the Federal CARES Act program according to their own discretion. Cities are taking these funds and using them for previously budgeted safety salaries. Doing this allows these cities to take the funds previously allocated for public employee salaries and deposit them, as one director remarked, “Right into the bank account.” ....
Ellen A Hanson 1948â2020 MinneapolisâEllen Andrea (Berg) Hanson passed away peacefully on November 25, 2020, with her husband of 53 years by her side. She was 72 years old. She was born April 18, 1948 to Albert T. Berg, Jr., and Helen Ruth Margaret (Rice) Berg in Owatonna, Minnesota. She grew up in Ellendale, Minnesota, and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1966. Her college years began at Augsburg College in the fall of 1966. She married John Philip Hanson of Clarks Grove, Minnesota, on October 7, 1967. They bought a home in Ellendale and welcomed their first child, Andrea Helen, on January 29, 1972; and their second child, Allison, Clair, on November 5, 1977. Her greatest treasure in life was being a wife, mother and homemaker. Throughout her years in Ellendale, she was a piano teacher to many an active music leader at First Lutheran Church, including serving as organist and pianist, as well as directing 25 church musicals.
