A Volusia County mother who buried her daughter six years ago says she takes great comfort by tending to her grave; talking to her there. Kaneshia Stokes is a humble hero.Stokes knew her co-worker at Ormond Beach Middle School was in trouble a few weeks ago when she glanced up from washing dishes and saw her on her knees grabbing her chest.That s when Stokes physically picked the woman up and performed the Heimlich.The school, the district and a number of organizations recently celebrated Ms. Stokes with a trophy, a basket of goodies, and a check for $2,000. I sometimes feel like I m put on Earth to help others. Regardless of what it is. I ve been feeling like that since I was younger, Stokes said. An elderly Ormond Beach couple lost $16,000 in a scam where the caller told them their granddaughter was in trouble and needed help.Authorities say a suspect showed up at the couples home to get the money. It s a scary thing for anybody that s got elderly parents or if you are elderly, Ted Teschner saidTeschner says his in-laws, both nearing 90 and with memory issues, were at home in Ormond Beach when they got a call Tuesday from someone claiming to be their granddaughter who told them she d been in an accident. She was in jail with injuries in a holding cell and that they needed $16,000 in order to free her up, Teschner said.The couple believed their loved one was in trouble so they did what they thought was right and drove to the bank to withdraw $16,000 in cash.Teschner says a second suspect was also involved in the call to help seal the deal. They had somebody pretending to be a lawyer claiming that she needed the money and they needed cash and they needed it right awa ....
