Covid-19: ICU numers drop by a fifth in a week as EU travel green cert approved

It comes as Leaving Cert 2021 begins this morning.
There s been a 20 percent drop in the number of ICU patients with Covid-19 in the past week.
Latest figures show there s 27 patients receiving treatment in intensive care, while in general wards the figure stands at 77.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly confirmed yesterday that three million vaccines have been administered in Ireland so far.

Meanwhile, an immunologist says it s a concern that two shots of vaccine are needed to give full protection against the Delta Variant of Covid-19. ....

EU to make decision on implementation of Digital Green Cert today

The Digital Green Cert and Ireland s involvement in the scheme is being anxiously watched by people who want to travel abroad again without having to undergo a raft of preparations
A decision s due this morning on how the EU will bring in a Digital Green Cert for international travel.
The plans, which would allow for travel across the bloc, were voted on by MEPs yesterday, with the results due today.
The cert, due to be introduced in Ireland on July 19th, would show if a passenger has been vaccinated, tested negative for Covid, or has recovered from the virus. ....

A group of 35 camogie clubs who were still involved in the now cancelled 2020 provincial and All-Ireland club competitions are not willing to accept that decision.
The competitions at senior, intermediate and junior levels commenced last year before being abandoned due to Covid restrictions. ....
