Martha's Vineyard Hospital Getting Ready for Youth Vaccination

Coronavirus vaccine providers are preparing for a rush to inoculate adolescents as young as 12, even as overall demand for COVID-19 vaccines is dropping locally and nationally.
Martha’s Vineyard Hospital has ordered extra doses of the Pfizer vaccine to be ready if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves it. Officials have signaled the decision could come shortly.
At least 550 adolescents on the Vineyard would be newly eligible, according to Claire Seguin, the hospital’s chief nurse and COO.

Island Health Care (IHC) is set to receive a shipment of 4,040 COVID-19 vaccines through a federal program, adding a much-needed supply boost for the Island.
Speaking to The Times by phone, IHC chief executive officer Cynthia Mitchell said the health center made its first order Wednesday, and expects to receive the vaccine doses next week. The doses will then be sent to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital to be administered through a partnership. ....

UK variant detected on-Island
The UK variant has been detected in positive cases of COVID-19 at Martha s Vineyard Hospital.
Three cases of the B.117 COVID-19 variant, known as the UK variant, have been detected on the Island, according to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital chief nurse and chief operating officer Claire Seguin.
Speaking to reporters Friday afternoon, Seguin said the hospital received results back for variant testing conducted by the state epidemiologist this week. Four the six samples tested came back with three positive for the B.117 variant and one tested negative. The two other samples are pending results and the hospital expects those results early next week. ....
