Perinatal depression: 'It got so bad that I felt like I was changing'

Perinatal depression: It got so bad that I felt like I was changing © RNZ / Claire Eastham-Farrelly Editor’s note: The opinions in this article are the author’s, as published by our content partner, and do not represent the views of MSN or Microsoft. First Person - Pasifika journalist Sela Jane Hopgood was sceptical when offered medication for perinatal depression, but, she writes, saying yes saved her life. A few weeks before I gave birth and during the first year of my son s life, I often went into a dark place where I was intensely worried about my baby, my appetite was all over the place and I was severely irritable and angry at people around me.

Fonterra's shares fall amid proposal to reform capital structure

Fonterra s shares fall amid proposal to reform capital structure © RNZ / Claire Eastham-Farrelly The price of units in the Fonterra Shareholders Fund, which are based on economic returns from Fonterra shares, have plunged as much as 13 percent before trimming their losses to settle about 7 percent lower. Fonterra s own shares traded on its internal market also fell more than 13 percent. The preferred option of the co-operative s board is to make it cheaper and easier for farmers to join, but it has also proposed capping or scrapping the Shareholders Fund. The head of research at investment house Jarden Securities, Arie Dekker, said Fonterra shareholders needed to think closely about scrapping the fund, which was the only avenue for non-farmer investors to have an exposure to Fonterra s business.

Pasifika mums urged to get help for depression

Suliana has one eye on the load of washing and one eye on her son as he dances near his glass of milk. She repeats herself, Watch out, son. Your drink is on the floor. But he carries on moving from one end of the bedroom to the other, eyes glued to the TV screen. She folds the washing, robotically, as her mind drifts away, thinking of what a difficult week she has had mentally. Nobody cares about me. I feel like a failure as a mother. I don t know what I m doing as a mother. I m not good enough. Why can t my family and friends be considerate of how hard I m working? Looking after three kids is so hard, she thinks.
