HC Coombs Fellow takes out Miles Franklin award

HC Coombs Fellow takes out Miles Franklin award
19 July 2021
It was in a bare quiet room beside the ANU Classics Museum where prize-winning author Amanda Lohrey found the energy to continue writing.
Here, Lohrey spent three wonderfully quiet undistracted months as the 2016 HC Coombs Creative Arts Fellow with the ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics.
The fellowship was created to provide creatives with the space and time to undertake their work at the ANU.
By the end of her time writing in this room, Lohrey had finished her novel,
The Labyrinth.
I don t know if I could have finished it without that fellowship, Lohrey says. ....

The Apprentice Aotearoa: The contestants hit the streets.
OPINION: Throw on a comfy outfit and buckle up hunnies, because this week the teams were off to Rainbow’s End! (at 6:30am, no less).

The teams were given two days to create relevant media assets, shoot influencer content and then present it to a mysterious “panel of experts”. Oh, and Cassie mixed up the teams.

Is there a better place to think about how great Hamilton is than Rainbow’s End. in Auckland? ....

At Tuggeranong Arts Centre, April 29-May 1. Bookings here.
JOE Woodward’s Shadow House PITS is presenting a reading of a partly surreal tragedy, “And Beyond the Violence”, a hybrid theatre/cinema work which may one day transform into a radio work.
