A 37-year-old South Bay man was sentenced to more than 37 years in prison this past week for three violent armed attacks on innocent people over two years, the Santa Clara County Office of the District Attorney said.
The sentencing of Alfonso Navarro, a resident of the unincorporated community of San Martin, followed his conviction by a jury last month on 13 counts ranging from assault with a deadly weapon to possession of a weapon by a felon. ....

Parts of the Bay Area experienced record-high temperatures in recent days, a sign of the warming trend that will likely continue through the end of the week before the region cools off to some rain.
Afternoon temperatures in San Francisco reached 81 degrees Wednesday, surpassing the previous record 80 degrees set in 2011. The high in Gilroy was 87 on Wednesday, one degree hotter than the previous record set in 2003. Months after a Bay Area couple was charged with enslaving an immigrant and forcing him to work at their liquor store for more than a year, their liquor licenses have been revoked.
Amarjit and Balwinder Mann, the owners and proprietors of a Gilroy liquor store, were charged in November for human trafficking, wage theft and witness intimidation after an investigation found that the two were allegedly keeping a man in a room behind the liquor store. ....
