A huge fire which broke out in Killarney National Park on Saturday has seen the army helicopter called in to assist the fire servi, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Kerry County Council to battle the blaze.
The fire which broke out at midnight has been fanned by a strong breeze and concern is mounting among exhausted fire fighters about the park’s ancient oakwoods in area near Eagle’s Nest. ....

Thousands of acres of national park are burning on Saturday evening in Killarney as fire crews, national park personnel and an army helicopter try to contain the huge fire on the southern and western edges of Killarney National Park.
Civil Defence and gardaí were also at the scene.
Inflatables were being used to ferry fire personnel and equipment across the lake while others remained to fight the blazes on the opposite shore. ....

The army helicopter is being called in as the fire service, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Kerry County Council continue to battle a huge fire in the Killarney National Park.
The fire, which broke out around midnight last night, has been fanned by a strong breeze and concern is mounting among exhausted fire fighters about the Park s ancient oakwoods in area near Eagle’s Nest.
The breeze is complicating matters hugely, a council spokesman said.
Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Patrick O’Connor-Scarteen, said the next few hours will be critical, with the fire now deep in the park. ....

Fire services are still tackling a large blaze in Killarney National Park.
Four fire engines and two jeeps are now receiving Air Support from the Defence Forces at the scene in Muckross.
Fire services have been tackling the blaze since just before midnight last night.

There is a growing concern for the safety of the old oak forestry in the Park.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, along with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, are asking members of the public to avoid the following areas until further notice: Gortderraree, Derrycunnihy, Gallavally,Cahernaduv, Gearhameen, Doogary, Eagles nest & The Five mile. ....

A LARGE FIRE is currently burning in Killarney National Park, with people being urged to stay away from the area.
The fire brigade is currently at the scene alongside staff from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The fire has been burning since early this morning.
To combat the fire, emergency services have used a helicopter to douse the flames using water from a nearby lake. ....
