Clearfield Co. Inmate Costs 7:00 pm Clearfield County signed a contract with the County Commissioner’s Association of PA’s Prison Inmate Medical Cost containment service in an effort to lower the cost of inmates’ medical bills. “I have to give the warden some credit on this, he was not satisfied with some of the bills we were seeing particularly one very large bill,” said Dave Glass, Clearfield County Commissioner. This contract comes after an inmate at the Clearfield County Jail was taken to a hospital in Altoona for an unexpected medical procedure. Glass said this medical bill could have cost the county $50,000 but thanks to this contract, the county saved $30,000. ....
Aaron Schmitt Arrested 10:25 pm Lawrence Township police say one person was arrested early Thursday morning after causing flooding at the Super 8 Hotel located along the Clearfield/Shawville Highway. Police say officers and crews with the Lawrence Township Fire Company were dispatched to the hotel, around 3 a.m., for a fire alarm and reports of flooding inside a first floor room. Fire crews say sprinklers inside the room had been activated and caused major flooding into other parts of the hotel. Officers say the room was being rented by 32-year-old Aaron Schmitt, of Clearfield, who later began fighting with police when questioned about the flooding. ....
For the Mirror CLEARFIELD A Tyrone man will serve time in state prison for conspiring to obtain a firearm, assaulting an inmate and threatening to kill a woman. Police say in July, Collin Bradley Gardner, 24, gave Jordan Matthew Wolfe, 24, also of Tyrone, $600 to purchase a gun from a Clearfield business. According to the affidavit, they went into the business where Wolfe filled out the appropriate paperwork and purchased the gun, which he then gave to Gardner. In his interview with investigators, Wolfe said Gardner told him he couldn’t purchase the gun himself because he had “court cases pending.” After the issues were resolved, Gardner said they could then transfer the ownership of the weapon to him. ....
COALPORT A Coalport man accused of arson has now been charged with homicide. Police say Jonathan Mark Gallaher, 36, set fire to a Coalport home, which killed Matthew Troxell, 33, of Patton on April 16. On Thursday, the original charges filed Monday against Gallaher were withdrawn and a new case was filed that includes four counts of homicide, two counts of arson-cause of death, five counts of arson, four counts of aggravated arson, causing a catastrophe, four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of criminal mischief, and four counts of recklessly endangering another person. The fire was ruled arson by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop C, Fire Marshal Unit, according to a press release from state police in Clearfield. ....
