I felt like I had the attention span to do homework online, more so than some of my friends, said Sanchez, who is graduating from Kofa High School. “I think I liked (learning) online a little better than in person.”
Sanchez will attend Arizona State University in the fall. He said he wants to work in the medical field, as an X-ray technician at first and perhaps later as an ultrasound technician. ....
MICHELLE KONDRICH FOR NPR The Yuma Union High School District announced Tuesday that it would allow four guests per student during commencement ceremonies for the class of 2021. All schools in the district will have their graduations on Friday, May 21. With the expectation of Vista High School s graduation on Wednesday, May 19 in the performing arts auditorium at Gila Ridge High School. While the ceremonies will be held in person, graduates will choose their four guests in advance through an online platform. In addition, guests will be required to check-in and complete a COVID-19 wavier. Those not looking to attend the ceremonies can tune in virtually through each school s Facebook page the night of the ceremony. ....
AWC Facebook The Pomp and Circumstance will be returning in person for Arizona Western College students next month. The 2020 commencement was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the number of vaccinations increasing daily and a drop in COVID cases, AWC officials announced two ceremonies this year in order to reduce crowd sizes. The graduation ceremonies will take place on May 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of Gila Ridge High School. On the 13th, AWC will celebrate its graduates earning an Associate of Arts, Associate of Business, Associate of General Studies, Associate of Applied Science last names A-C and Nursing students along with graduates of the Arizona State University and University of Arizona programs in Yuma. NAU-Yuma has chosen not to participate in person, but AWC will still celebrate those graduates. ....
MGN Three YUHSD Academic Decathlon teams reach state competition YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Following last year s victories, three Yuma Union High School District Academic Decathlon teams qualified once again for the state-level event after advancing through a virtual regional competition at Cibola High School (CHS). CHS finished second in Region III, tallying 31,479 points, while Gila Ridge High School (GRHS) placed fourth and Kofa High School (KHS) placed fifth, rounding out the top 5. Canyon Del Oro from Oro Valley finished first with a score of 44,187. It is the ninth year in a row CHS has advanced to state and the 24th time since 1994. They enter the 2021 finals, which take place March 12, ranked 18th overall in Arizona. ....
Adeline Louise Dunn Adeline Louise Dunn of Yuma ws named to the University of Mississippiâs honor roll for the fall 2020 semester. To earn the honor, Dunn had to earn a grade point average of 3.50 while carrying a course load of at least 12 hours. Maritza Noriega, Guillermo Velez The College Board National Recognition Programs has honored San Luis High School students Maritza Noriega and Guillermo Velez as National Hispanic Scholars. Both seniors, Velez and Noriega received the honor based on the high grade point averages they maintain and high scores they achieved on the PSAT test. Velez plans to study physics with the goal of earning a doctorate in a specialized field, while Noriega plans to study architecture. ....
