By Marie-Therese Nanlong The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has again advocated comprehensive judicial reforms to maintain the secularity of Nigeria as per Section 10 of 1999 Constitution and expunging all provisions pertaining to Sharia Courts system. CAN stated its position in Jos at the just concluded North Central public hearing by the House of Representatives Committee for the review of the 1999 constitution. The body through Joash Amupitan noted, “We are convinced on the need to take advantage of the current review exercise to facilitate legal and judicial reforms as means of making issues of justice as a logical panacea for most challenges bedeviling the country.

Constitutional review: It may end up inconclusive like others - Christian Lawyer s President, Akanni

The President, Christian Lawyers in Africa, Barrister Sunny Abayomi Akanni, has alleged that the constitutional review exercise embarked on by the 9th Senate may end up like the previous ones in the country which till date had remained inconclusive. He said, “l am sure that if this Senate will do the constitutional review we (Nigerians) are asking for, they will become the only lawmakers that may have made Nigerians happy but nothing may come out of it and l will not be surprised. But l am praying for them that they should just wake up and have the courage to do what Nigerians are asking them to do.”

JUSUN strike: Financial autonomy of judiciary not-negotiable - CLASFON

The Christian Lawyers Fellowship of Nigeria, CLASFON, has observed that the financial autonomy of the Nigerian Judiciary is absolutely not-negotiable. The group noted that the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, on 6th April, 2021 embarked on a nationwide industrial action to press home its demand that the judiciary arm of government both at the Federal and state levels must be allowed to enjoy its constitutional right of financial autonomy as provided in Section 81(3) and Section 121(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). Arome Okwori and Tunji Omole, National President and National Secretary of CLASFON, in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Kaduna, explained that, “Beside these constitutional provisions concerning the financial autonomy and independence of the judiciary, there is a subsisting court order validating the reason for the on-going industrial action embarked on by JUSUN way back in the case of JUSUN v. AG Federation
