Rutgers’ freshman 184-pounder avenged his only loss of the season, pinning Minnesota’s Owen Webster after a reversal to advance to the semifinal round of the Big Ten Championships on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center. Poznanski also clinched an automatic qualifier spot for the NCAA Championships on March 18-20 in St. Louis.
The Scarlet Knights will have two semifinalists Poznanski and star 141-pounder Sebastian Rivera after going 2-2 as a team in the quarterfinal round. Seven of their nine wrestlers remain alive in the tournament after the first session. Rutgers is tied for ninth in the team score race with 23.5 points.

Rutgers wrestling had been pretty fortunate, all things considered. But that luck has boomeranged in a big way over the last month.
The Scarlet Knights managed to avoid the coronavirus for the most part since they returned to campus in the fall. The program only had a handful of positive tests here and there and no significant training disruptions. But the virus has now knocked out over half of their regular season dual meet schedule after Friday night’s abrupt cancellation of the Maryland match.
Rutgers lost its dual meet against Penn State to COVID-19 issues with the Nittany Lions back in January, then had its own at the worst possible time on the schedule. The Scarlet Knights’ positive cases only paused the program for a handful of days, but they prevented them from competition in a quad meet at Indiana a date that represented a third of their competitions this year and then sen
