1 killed, 2 injured in shooting at Bessemer hotel

One person was killed, and two others injured during a shooting early Wednesday inside the Red Roof Inn in Bessemer.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s office identified the slain man as Cory Lamont Peterson. He was 35 and lived in Bessemer.
Police responded to a call of shots fired at the hotel at 12:05 a.m., said Lt. Christian Clemons. When they arrived at Red Roof, which is on Academy Court, they found Peterson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to UAB Medical Center West where he was pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m.
Six days ago, Kimberly Steele experienced a mother’s worst nightmare. Her son, 27-year-old Shaquille Steele, was found shot to death inside a running vehicle outside a Bessemer complex. The grieving mother is now asking that anyone who knows anything about her son’s death to please come forward.
Deundre Marcel Mosley, 23, is charged with murder and attempted murder. Killed in the gunfire was 21-year-old Carlos Dewayne Wells Jr. Both the suspect and the victim are from Bessemer.

27-year-old found shot to death inside running vehicle at Bessemer apartment building

A man was found shot to death inside a vehicle outside a Bessemer apartment complex late Wednesday.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the slain man as Shaquille O’Neil Steele. He was 27 and lived in Bessemer.
Lt. Christian Clemons said police received the call after 11 p.m. When they arrived at Cloverdale Garden Apartments on Clarendon Avenue, they found the victim inside a vehicle that was still running, and the interior lights were on.
Steele was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:19 p.m.
