God Instructs Sinners in the Way We Should Go

Unaddressed sins permeate life; the sins of youth become the sins of this day until we meet the Lord in them. Good and upright is the Lord, we can meet Him and be instructed. He leads us out of entwining lies to Himself.

What Makes the Christian's Burden Light?

3 May We who have faith in Christ have a burden in this world; Christ does not discount the trials that we face for the sake of the truth, the difficulties we endure because we choose God’s ways alone for our lives. We have a burden, let there be no doubt, with details distinct to our individual life circumstances. And yet, when we regard the Christian burden, we are to exclusively deem it “light”: Here, I give three ways to consider the Christian burden “light” based upon early church father John Chrysostom’s exposition of Matthew 11:28-30. How Can We Hallow God's Name?

13 Apr The first request of the Lord’s prayer is that God’s name would be hallowed. Not only is this the first line of the Lord’s prayer, but it is also the overarching premise and guiding desire of it. John Calvin writes: “the majesty of God deserves to come before all other considerations. It is well for us that God reigns and that all honor is his due; for no man is aflame with the desire to glorify God, unless, forgetting himself, he elevates his mind to seek God who is high and lofty.” Herein is found a necessary principle to undercutting the ever-creeping selfishness of the soul: “Hallowed be Thy name.” This revering of God can be considered according to various dimensions, as seen in a sampling of how the saints of various times have commented on these pre-eminent Lord’s-prayer words.
