It is an island for millionaires and nature lovers (the famous dunes of Sylt are simply spectacular), but the island is also known for a traditional Christmas Swim in the cold North Sea.

The popular Christmas Swim, now in its 31st year, has become THE public Christmas event on December 26 with many thousands of spectators, music, plenty of street food stalls on the beach serving hot dogs, hot Mullet wine, Christmas gadgets, hot coffee, and Grog (hot rum) – you just name it. Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Cope Galway is doing a Christmas Swim with a difference, starting today.
It’s asking people to swim where they are, from now until the 30th of December to raise funds for the charity.
The annual event at Blackrock in Salthill will not go ahead as normal this year due to the pandemic.
Cope Galway Fundraising Executive, Lynia O’Brien says the charity is encouraging people to swim locally to keep other people safe. ....
