Previous attempts to buy the building have failed. The owners of the building, as well as the Christchurch Civic Trust and Historic Places Canterbury have previously fought to save the 116-year-old warehouse which also has retail space for NG Design. Ground works are already under way at the stadium site which takes in a large block of land in the central city. Originally it was planned to incorporate the building into the stadium design but the intention changed when the stadium s location was changed slightly. ....

Heritage advocates claim many of Christchurch s historic buildings were hastily bowled after the deadly February 2011 earthquake, while city leaders say safety was their priority. The Christchurch RSA previously wanted the memorial to be moved to Cranmer Square, but at a council meeting on Thursday, Canterbury RSA president Stan Hansen said there was now a desire to have the cenotaph relocated within the Square. National RSA president BJ Clark said there was a lot of emotion surrounding the future of the cenotaph and it must remain in the Square. However, not everyone was keen on the idea of moving the memorial. ....
