When 5-year-old Terrae Howell moved from the Bronx in New York, to Cincinnati, Ohio, kids at school teased him about his accent.
So, he fought back with jokes.
Those jokes turned into rhymes steeped in social commentary. Now Howell, who’s stage name is Tre Howl, makes a living as a songwriter, musician, rapper and poet known regionally for storytelling through his art.
On June 17, he will join four other people from Ohio, Michigan and Indianapolis sharing personal stories about family and culture during the Midwest Storytellers Project’s virtual storytelling show. Newsrooms of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Lansing State Journal, IndyStar and Louisville Courier-Journal are joining together to host the virtual event.
