The sessions are on Thursday, July 29, Tuesday Aug. 3 and Thursday, Aug. 5. They will be held virtually at 2 p.m. and in-person at 3 p.m. David Ashley, employment placement specialist at Open Door Group in Kamloops, said individuals who qualify will receive free gear and training, which includes two days worth of S100 and S185 Fire Suppression course work. Ashley said the courses are the minimum requirement for firefighting. “We’re facilitating that and getting it set up for next week here,” he said, noting other course work, like first aid, may also be available. The organization is not directly hiring firefighters but has connections with employers for individuals, once the necessary training is completed.
