WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County Schools (NHCS) has come a long way in its efforts to effectively deal with sexual assault, and itâs letting the public know about it.
NHCS formed a Title IX committee in the Spring of 2019, in the wake of public outcry over the sexual assault of students by their teachers that spanned over the course of decades. Parents and victims complained of systemic issues that allowed the abuse to continue for years after they say it could have and should have been stopped. ....

Youth ambassadors campaign for better mental health coverage

Young people are leading the campaign for greater awareness and better insurance coverage for those in the Cayman Islands battling mental health issues.
The Youth Ambassadors group, comprising teenagers and young adults from across the islands, was one of the leading advocacy groups for the decriminalisation of suicide.
But its members insist their mission does not stop there.
“We were very happy that we were able to help get suicide decriminalised but there is so much more we are looking to accomplish,” said Cristin Jackson, one of the group’s leaders. ....

Augusta County Planning Commission decides Round Hill Solar Project not in compliance with comp plan

Augusta County Planning Commission voted against recommending to the
Augusta County Board of Supervisors that the
Round Hill Solar Project, an 880-acre, 83 megawatt energy system, is in substantial accord with the county s Comprehensive Plan. The vote to deny the motion that the project was in compliance with the comp plan was 4-3.
Although the
Planning Commission s consideration regarding the project s compliance with the Comprehensive Plan was one step in the application process, the actual approval or denial of the large scale energy system, will come during a public hearing before the
Augusta County Board of Supervisors. The decision on whether or not to issue a special use permit for the project rests with the supervisors. The date of that public hearing has not yet been set. ....
