He will also moderate panels at real estate events and work closely with faculty and select groups of students. “I am excited to collaborate with students and faculty alike in the development of cutting edge applied research projects,” Roschelle said.

Nonprofits adjust mission to feed hundreds in southeastern San Diego during COVID

SAN DIEGO    As the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc across San Diego’s most diverse neighborhoods, some nonprofits organizations are altering their missions to provide meals to struggling families. Several organizations have taken on a weekly food distribution at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center in addition to their regular operations, while others have completely pivoted to food distribution. The nonprofit organizers who launched the effort in April imagined it would be a temporary project possibly lasting a couple months, yet the community’s need has kept the distribution running for almost a year. And organizers don’t see it ending anytime soon.

Local artists uplift work of southeastern San Diego nonprofits with virtual concert

SAN DIEGO    Local artists will use dance, poetry and music to pay tribute to nonprofits that serve southeastern San Diego neighborhoods in an upcoming virtual concert presented by the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. The “Be About It” concert will be streamed on social media on Saturday, Nov. 14. It will feature original music, dance, poetry, rap and comedy skits created in honor of seven nonprofits. Nonprofits across San Diego have lost funding from canceled events because of the coronavirus pandemic, and some are struggling to secure donations, organizers of the event said. A concert highlighting the work they continue to do despite being impacted by COVID-19 is a creative way to rally economic and public support, said Christie Marcella, director of economic development and innovation with the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation.
