Norwich School officials reported the first case of COVID-19 in the school district’s summer school program, with a student attending the program at the Kelly Middle School testing positive and potentially exposing eight others to the coronavirus that causes the disease.
Superintendent Kristen Stringfellow reported the case to parents and staff Monday. The student last was in school on July 6, became symptomatic on July 7 and tested positive for COVID-19 on July 10. The student was instructed to self-isolate for 10 days.
Stringfellow said the eight identified close contacts have been notified. If those people have been vaccinated or had COVID-19 in the past 90 days, she said, they would not need to quarantine.
