Rowan Collinson: It’s easy to forget that, by 1991, Prince had already released 12 (!) studio albums and was cemented as a household name thanks to his Lovesexy album and accompanying world tour. Coming off the back of soundtracks for Batman and Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls was the first album with his new band The New Power Generation and arguably marks the end of a purple patch which started with 1999 a decade earlier.
Lead single ‘Gett Off’ may have re-affirmed his risque reputation with the line “23 positions in a one night stand”, but away from that and the double entendre of ‘Cream’, Diamonds and Pearls contains some of Prince’s best, and most affecting, songs. ....

Edwards RiverPark debate turns to workforce housing, fiscal impacts

The Eagle County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday scrutinized workforce housing solutions and fiscal impacts for the Edwards RiverPark plan. The three-hour session was the third public hearing for the controversial proposal.
The Edwards RiverPark is a commercial/residential planned unit development proposal from a group called Sierra Trail Investments LLC. The project is planned on a 53.7-acre parcel located north of U.S. Highway 6 and south of the Eagle River on land that was formerly the site of a B&B Excavating gravel pit operation. The proposal includes two large condo buildings and a condo/hotel building along with commercial buildings, multifamily residential and townhomes. ....

Kind Castle gets council nod for first Glenwood Meadows pot shop


Kind Castle will be the first marijuana retail shop to open at the Glenwood Meadows commercial area.
Glenwood Springs City Council last week voted 4-3 to approve the proposal by Kind Castle to construct a new 4,504-square-foot, two story building at the corner of Wulfsohn Road and Flat Tops View Drive.
The location is at the southeast corner of the larger Glenwood Meadows planned unit development (PUD), near the Glenwood Green Apartments.
The retail marijuana shop is planned to take up 3,270 square feet of building space, leaving another 784 square feet for future retail leasing to be determined.
City Council held a lengthy public hearing on Dec. 3, where a range of arguments were made both for and against the application. ....
